ST HELENA LINE WAYBILLS

Statement

Starting with the next trans-shipment departure from the UK via Capetown in Mid July we (MacAndrews & Co Ltd - as agents for AWSL -St Helena Line Ltd) will start to issue WAYBILLS for all shipments.

The below is the procedure that is required when using waybills. This procedure has been approved by AWSL and is to apply for all shipments that are covered by a Waybill.

The whole idea of a waybill is to reduce the need to sent original documents such as bills of lading to overseas agents etc. Therefore, and also from the next transshipment sailing from UK we will stop sending copy waybills.

If however there is a need for customs etc please let us know, otherwise we will only send you a manifest and the reefer / haz data as usual.

If you have any concerns please contact me.

Regards

St Helena Line - Way Bills

Policy and Procedure on the use of Way Bills for the St Helena Line Service.

A Way Bill is a non-negotiable document which has all the terms and conditions of a Bill of Lading applying to it, this is stated on the Way Bill. The Way Bill also has some terms & conditions in its own right and these are printed on the face of the document.
Copies of the Bill of Lading terms & conditions will be available on request and will be publicly displayed in all agents office.

For the vast majority of cargo carried on all routes on the St Helena Line service the Way Bill can be used. Only on the rare occasions is a full negotiable Bill of Lading necessary.

The purpose of a Way Bill is to reduce / eliminate the need for shipping documents to be sent to the Port of Destination agents for release of cargo. With this in mind, cargo covered by a Way Bill has a simplified method of release. One of the following methods can be used to satisfy the Port of Discharge agency sufficently to issue a release order:

1/ The person / company applying for release of the cargo must supply proof of identity.

2/ The identity can be any of the following:

a) For a private person - Passport, Driving Licence or other official form of identity which corresponds with the manifest consignee details.
b) For a company - a copy of the commercial invoice which shows the shipper and the consignee as per the manifest OR a request for release on the consignees official letter head and the contents of the letter must describe the cargo and give details of the shipper.
